Def3
Def3 is an award-winning artist based in Vancouver, Canada, who has made a name for himself in the hip hop and electronic scenes. He spent his childhood growing up on a ship as the child of relief worker parents providing aid in Western Africa, Latin American and Europe. This experience gave him a unique perspective of the world which is prevalent in much of his content and musical influence. He has performed at prestigious festivals and venues around the globe including 2010 Olympics, Shambhala Music Festival, Lightning In A Bottle, Sask Jazz Festival, Rifflandia, Project Pabst, Hip Hop Kemp, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Envision Festival, Juno Fest, SXSW, NXNE, Center Of Gravity, Canadian Music Week, Tallinn Music week, Earth Frequency Festival, Dawson City Music fest, Regina Folk Festival and many more.
His latest album “Weddings & Funerals” produced by Late Night Radio was released Jun 4th, 2021 and reached #1 on the iTunes Canada Hip Hop Charts and #7 overall for all genres its first week of release. He has received 4 WCMA nominations most recently for his album “Small World, following up his 2014 album Wildlif3 with Factor Chandelier, which won ‘Rap Recording Of The Year’ at the 2015 Western Canadian Music Awards. It also reached #1 overall nationally on Earshot (Canada) and #8 overall on CMJ (US) college radio hip hop charts and received critical acclaim from major hip hop blogs such as 2DopeBoyz, OkayPlayer, GrownUpRap and even a feature and interview co-sign on Mass Appeal from hip hip legend Masta Ace. Not only did Small World top the U.S. and Canadian national College Radio hip hop charts again after its release,it also reached #5 in November on CBC’s top 10 most streamed hip hop songs.
Showing his diversity, He has shared the stage with a wide variety of hip hop and electronic music’s biggest names such as, The Roots, Nas, Big Boi, Post Malone, Flatbush Zombies, The Hilltop Hoods, Foreign Beggars, Bad Bad Not Good, Adventure Club, House Of Pain, Foreign Beggars, Ghostface Killah, Salt-N-Pepa, BADBADNOTGOOD, Grandtheft, Inspectah Deck, Masta Ace, Nelly, Bliss n Eso, Blackalicious, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Onyx, The Beatnuts, Black Milk, Del the Funky Homosapien, Zioni, Souls of Mischief and many more.
Def3 has also collaborated with many other electronic acts including the The Funk Hunters, K+lab, SkiiTour, Sodown, Defunk and Pigeon hole to name a few. With sounds contagious to all types of music lovers seamlessly blending hip hop, funk, latin, soul, jazz, trap, glitch hop, dubstep and drum and bass. His unique stage presence combines a high energy performance packed with a wide variety of classic hip hop and dance inspired production styles, clever lyrics and catchy hooks from beginning to end.
360 DEGREE SHOW EXPERIENCE that will also include a custom AV / Lighting set. For those who have never seen a show like this, The premise is the artist performs a small stage in the centre of the crowd vs the traditional back against the wall. This concept was made popular by electronic djs and promoters at events such as Boiler Room and more recently Define Everything Future. This setup changes the whole experience to a much more intimate and interactive experience for all to enjoy and is something I’ve always dreamt of trying. So here we are!
